OldeKnicks's Hang Out

Knicks Bigs are Key to Defeating Memphis

Knicks First Big Test

The Memphis Grizzlies will be a formidable opponent. They were 5th in offense and 4th in D last year. Fortunately, Jaren Jackson Jr., their shot blocker, is out and Steven Adams, their reliable center, is a game time decision. Adams provides offensive boards, good passing, and a large body. Without these two players, this game is an open invitation to emphasize Mitch’s presence. Feed the beast.

Thibs will limit Ja’s opportunities in the lane with a collapsing defense, so Morant’s outside shooting will be a key for the Grizz. Desmond Bane is a strong, determined although short armed defender with a terrific stroke. The 30th pick in the 2020 draft was .436 on 7 three point attempts last year.

Brandon Clarke will probably start in place of the injured JJJ because he is a stronger defender than the 6’11” Santi Aldama who may start in place of Adams. If Memphis doubles Robinson, Jules should have a field day.

Head up, Dillon Brooks will guard either Brunson or Barrett, who may draw Bane. Without Jackson guarding the rim, the Knicks B&Bs will find it easier to score inside off screens. If the Knicks continue to move the ball, take advantage of the match ups inside, and get their 25+ assists, they can move this game from the loss to the win column. With three very winnable games following the Memphis game, the Knicks could very well enter a very tough seven game stretch beginning with the Bucks on Friday, October 28th with a 4 – 0 record.

Knicks ‘sharing is scaring’ the opponents.
